Help! I should’ve said NO to Dancing with the Stars…
10 July 2015You won’t believe what I’ve gotten myself into this time by saying “yes” to something I REALLY should have said “no” to. There are many things I can do, but there’s one thing I CAN’T do at all (at least not yet), and that’s ballroom dance. Two left feet, broken partner toes, trip and fall, yep, that’s me!
You’ve heard of the popular TV show “Dancing with the Stars?” Well, I’ve been asked to participate in the local spinoff, Boca’s Ballroom Battle on 8.28.15 at the Waldorf Astoria Boca Raton Resort & Club. All proceeds from the event send students to college who would not otherwise be able to attend via the George Snow Scholarship Fund.
Yes, I’ll spend the next four months paired with a professional dancer from Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Boca Raton to perfect a routine so that I won’t completely embarrass myself, and perform it in front of nearly 1,000 people. “Dance like nobody is watching” is what I’ve been told. Yeah, right!
Why am I doing this? I was never able to go to college. Having the opportunity to help deserving young adults pursue higher education though scholarships granted from a foundation I know and respect is the primary reason. Also, 15 years ago, it was Tim Snow, President of the George Snow Scholarship Fund, whom I consulted with on how to start our Caring House Project Foundation. I will be forever grateful for the advice I received.
So, I am dancing for your support!
Last year 84 students who would not have been able to attend college received scholarships averaging $7,500 so they could. I promise to dance my heart out to increase that number this year. My goal is to raise enough to provide 10 students with $7,500 scholarships, or $75,000 in total! I need your help to get there!
Here are a few ways you can help support me (and the students), especially since it’s early and some cool opportunities still exist! All donations are tax deductible.
Visit http://www.ballroombattle.com/ to:
1) See and select one of the unique sponsorship opportunities.
2) Become my Dance Sponsor, and be THE one to introduce me to the dance floor on August 28. You, or whoever you designate, will be able to talk about your company too!
3) Donate to buy a table or tickets so you can see this unfold firsthand. We already have 2 tables of friends and family.
4) Donate to take out an acknowledgement/advertisement in the playbill.
5) Donate any sum you can. Every donation makes a difference.
Or if you prefer, you can make your tax deductible donation offline by check. Make sure to write “Frank McKinney” in the subject line so that I’ll get credit for your donation.
